I had a recent comment talking about someone doing self-promotion as if it was a bad thing. I personally don’t see self-promotion as a bad thing, unless the person is focused on bad things, such as scamming people, hurting people, tricking people, etc. But, the person in question was just trying to promote her products that she believed could benefit other people that they might not have known about if she didn’t mention them.
You, just like everyone else, has something to offer this world. You are here, aren’t you? That means that you have a purpose – you have something valuable to contribute!
I think that some people have a lot to contribute, and some people have a little, but no one person is more important than the other. It’s all the contributions to this world that make it what it is.
But, if you aren’t willing to show other people (self-promote) what you have to contribute, then you can’t make a difference.
Self-Promotion is a collection of behaviours and activities that ensure people are aware of whom you are, your talents, and your professional plans.

Self-Employed Or Doing What You Love? Don’t Be Scared To Promote Yourself!
If you are a self-employed, I’m willing to bet that you are doing something that you love – something that is your passion. And when you are doing something good that you are passionate about, you are doing something good for the people around you.
Part of doing what you are passionate about means you need to promote yourself. You need to promote your ideas, products, work, contributions, blog, etc. You need to help other people see what you have to offer this world if you really want to help the world and make money while doing it.
There will always be people who try to shut you down. People who have the belief that you shouldn’t make money doing what you love. People who think that nobody should toot their own horn and talk about themselves or anything to do with them in a positive way. But, their words are simply a reflection of their beliefs, not truths that you need to live by.
The bottom line is that if you love and respect yourself, and you know that you are a good person trying to do good things for this world, there is nothing wrong with letting people know what you can offer them.
Yes, they may find you on their own, but why sit in the dark corner waiting for them to find you? Why not get out into the light, stand tall and make it known that you are proud of what you do and what you are offering people.
Not Self-Employed Or Doing What You Love? Still, Don’t Be Scared To Promote Yourself!
Even if you are not self-employed or doing what you love, you are still a human being with a lot to offer the world. You should also be willing to stand tall, show off your talents, and help other people out with those talents when you can.
If you stand in the shadows too long, you will never remove the fear to do what you want to do. You won’t want to be too bold or too loud, so you will stay still, hiding from the judgment of other people.
What kind of life is that?
Don’t Focus On What People Think, Focus On Why You Want To Promote Yourself
If you focus on the thought that other people are judging you for promoting yourself, then you won’t do anything. As a good person, you don’t want anyone to think badly of you.
Therefore, focus on why you want to promote yourself.
- Do you want to help more people?
- Do you want to make this world a better place?
- Do you want to add beauty to this world?
Find your reason for self-promotion and let that help you step out of the dark and feel more comfortable showing people who you are and what you are made of.
A Great Video On Why Sharing Your Passion (Not Quietly) Is So Important
Two big things I got from the video:
- We believe that we can’t say what we want or do what we want to be successful. And that’s wrong because…
- The more authentic you are, the more you show up with your views and your passions, the more influence you have!!!
‘You’ is a combination of your personality, your talents, your products, your services, and your words. Don’t be scared to promote yourself so that others can see what you believe in, who you are, and why they should trust you.
